Ivy Mawuse Ayetor Writes: “No Excuse For Sadness”

No Excuse for Sadness

When I count the rainy days I can hardly remember the gloom

I must cheerfully go on moving

I have no reason to shriek

Even if I am tossed by setbacks’ waves

I must not mutter an unthankful word

For I have enjoyed so much consideration

I have no reason to cry

From the least to the Highest

I have received so much goodness

I cannot overlook such benevolence

I have no excuse for sadness

Ivy Mawuse Ayetor

BACKGROUND

The poet seeks to portray that she does not have reasons to be sad. She makes mention of the fact that she has received so many blessings from the Lord and that the good days in her life outnumber the bad days.

There is so much pain and negativity around us but truth be told, the good surrounding us outweighs it by a huge margin. Count your blessings and name them one by one.
