Dr. Prince Boamah Abrah Honored with the 2026 Carolyn Rebecca Block Award at Arizona State University

Dr. Prince Boamah Abrah, a distinguished academic and social development expert, has been awarded the prestigious 2026 Carolyn Rebecca Block Award by the Homicide Research Working Group (HRWG) at its Annual Conference held at Arizona State University, USA. The award recognizes an outstanding practitioner whose work significantly advances global understanding of homicide and lethal violence.

Dr. Abrah received the honor in recognition of his exceptional contributions to homicide research, justice administration, and evidence‑based social policy. His work on the fundamental causes of homicide, procedural justice, green criminology, labeling theory and self reflection, coping strategies of women convicted of homicide, ferminist and lifecourse criminologicals analys of women homicide motivation,, and youth reoffending among others has positioned him as a leading voice in criminological research in Africa and beyond.

With over 18 years in higher education and 23 years in social welfare and justice administration, Dr. Abrah has built a career that bridges rigorous academic research with practical leadership. He has served in key national roles within the Department of Social Welfare, including Acting National Director, Principal of the School of Social Work, District/Municipal Director, and Head of the Accra Probation Unit.

Dr. Abrah is also a respected scholar, having taught at the University of Ghana, the African University College of Communications, and the School of Social Work. His research has been published in leading international journals, and he serves as a peer reviewer for top-tier outlets such as International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, Crime and Delinquency, Deviant Behavior, and Springer Nature.

Speaking at the ceremony, HRWG leadership highlighted Dr. Abrah’s “remarkable commitment to advancing global knowledge on lethal violence” and praised his ability to translate research into policy and practice that strengthens justice systems and community safety.

Dr. Abrah described the award as “a profound honor and a call to deepen collaborative research that addresses the root causes of violence and promotes justice reform across diverse societies.”

He holds a PhD, MPhil, and BA in Sociology from the University of Ghana and a Master’s in Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary. 

He is also the founder of the Inspirers Ministry, which supports youth outreach, community transformation, and prison ministry initiatives.

This international recognition further solidifies Dr. Abrah’s reputation as a leading African scholar‑practitioner shaping global conversations on homicide, justice, and social development.
